In Cor Mundi’s This Side of Heaven concert on May 24, soprano Laura Sanders sings one of Verdi’s most intimate and fragile melodies. In Desdemona’s prayer, we hear not just the cry of a doomed woman, but perhaps an echo of Verdi’s own contemplation of what lies beyond this side of heaven.
